Security Advice

All locksmiths are not created equal, and unfortunately anyone can call themselves a locksmith. Always get advice from a member of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA). This will ensure that the company not only adheres to real standards and should there be a problem, you have a trade body to go to. All MLA members are required to have Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. This was previously known as Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks. Members are also required to pass practical tests and written exams to ensure that they have the correct level of skill and expertise to deserve MLA membership. G K Locksmiths is a MLA member as an Approved Company.
Gone are the days when people could leave their doors open and still feel safe – if they ever existed.
There is no point in security if you don’t use it.
Always use locks that have the British Standards Institution kitemark (i.e. BS3621). It is never worth saving a couple of pounds by buying inferior locks. A lock is there to protect you and the cost per year becomes negligible. Furthermore and very importantly you are not fully covered by your insurance if you do not have a BS lock fitted.
Locks that are not fitted properly will create a weak spot in your door and doorframe leaving you with a false sense of security. When you get a professional to fit your lock, you can be rest assured that you have the maximum protection that your lock is designed for.
Windows are an often overlooked security hole in the fabric of your building. Fitting Key Operated Window Locks doesn’t take long and makes real sense, both for your security and your insurance premiums.
Just like door locks, you risk not being covered by your insurance policy should the worse happen.
Locks and security are only as good as the structures they are fixed to, and these can weaken over the years. So it makes good sense to get your security serviced regularly. Every 5 years should be fine, and again the cost per year in negligible, especially when compared to the security of your family and possessions.
